INDICATIONS:
Assess for urinary retention
Assess for free fluid in the pelvis
Confirm urinary catheter placement
Measure post void residual
Evaluate for nephrolithiasis at the UVJ
REQUIRED IMAGES:
Both transverse and sagittal views through the bladder
How to measure bladder volume:
Bladder volume is measured by taking three different measurements. In your transverse plane view of the bladder, you measure the width and the height. In your sagittal plane view, you measure the length of the bladder. Multiplying these numbers x 0.7 will give you your bladder volume.
