ACA and the ED - Past, Present and Future - Part I
We are excited to bring you the first installment of an exciting three-part series focusing on health policy as it impacts the ED. With the collaboration of the illustrious Dr. Seth Trueger, we are planning a deep-dive to understand the health care climate around the time of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, or simply, ACA), how the ACA has impacted health care and the ED, and what the future holds, particularly with respect to this nation’s leadership transition. Part 1 explores the history of health care in America and how it lead to the development of the ACA.
Grands Rounds Summary 01.25.2017
Dr. Betham started off Grand Rounds with this month's Morbidity and Mortality Conference, where we learned about Gout, ITP, Stroke, and Hyperkalemia in ESRD patients. Dr. Teuber walked us through the varying recommendations regarding ED Thoracotomy and Dr. Banning taught us how to handle neonatal urgencies. Leadership Curriculum wrapped up this week's conference with a session on how to pitch an idea.
Grand Rounds Summary 01.18.2017
This week's Grand Rounds started off with a stress-inducing sim written by the R4s that included a pregnant trauma patient with a positive FAST, an imminent delivery and neonatal resuscitation! Drs. Paulsen and Continenza faced off in a great CPC and Dr. DeVries walked us through the history of US use in ED patients. Dr. Golden rounded out our day with a lecture focused on foot and ankle injuries.
